Indonesia's traditional fabric: Songket

In this post, I wanna introduce you to Indonesia's traditional fabric - Songket.

Songket [song-cát] is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textilles of Indonesia.

It is hand-woven in silk, cotton or sometimes wool, and intricately pattern with gold or silver threads. The metalic threads stand out against the background cloth to create shimmering effect. In the weaving process, the metalic threads are inserted in between the silk or cotton weft (latitudinal) threads.
